In case you hadn’t figured it out yet, I play the flute.
I also arrange music for flutes, have studied flute performance from an academic research point of view, and have recently decided that it’s about time I start writing my own music with my flute.
At some point in the nearish future, I plan on upgrading my flute – I’m currently using my trusty Azumi 2000 that got me through my degree. I recently got a new headjoint, so I’ll blog about my search for the perfect body to match when I get around to trying some.
However, flute shopping is currently on hold because…. I’m getting braces! Yes, due to a naughty tooth reappearing after 12 years under my gum, I’ll soon be undergoing a year of orthodontic treatment. As you might have guessed, this isn’t ideal as a flute player – I’ve only come across one single flautist who has worked professionally while wearing braces, and I know from having braces as a teenaged beginner flautist that there will be an adjustment period. I will definitely be blogging about the trials and tribulations of this.
I’m always on the lookout for new pieces to play, and I’m especially interested in music written by women, so if you’re a female composer please get in touch!
